Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT)

ECRT aims to bridge the gap of resources for students experiencing immediate and unforeseen circumstances regarding their basic needs. For housing services, students can connect to the Rapid Rehousing and Housing Security Program (RRHHSP). This program provides students with housing navigation (housing search) and case management services to transition students from experiencing homelessness and into a stable housing situation. Our goal for this program is to support SDSU students in securing permanent housing while brokering a variety of additional support services. This can include referrals to additional basic needs resources both on or off campus such CalFresh, hygiene support, transportation, and others. ECRT currently partners with a community based organization - People Assisting The Homeless in San Diego (PATH San Diego) -for RRHHSP. PATH has a long track record of success in providing services to the San Diego community and can assist students with enrolling in different services and programs.

To be eligible for the RRHHSP, student must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled at SDSU with at least one semester of complete coursework
  • Meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) definition of homelessness. You can view more at this link: HUD Categories of the Homeless
  • Completed FAFSA and/or CADAA for current academic year
  • Have completed an assessment with the Housing Stability Coordinator (HSC) at ECRT for eligibility. To be connected to the Housing Stability Coordinator to be assessed for eligibility for the Rapid Rehousing and Housing Security Program (RRHHSP), please submit an Request for Assistance Form
ECRT and the Basic Needs Center also provides the following resources below for additional support related to housing. Please email us at the [email protected] for any questions or concerns.

Students experiencing a documented, unforeseen circumstance may be eligible for one-time emergency funding to ensure housing stability. If eligible, this funding is coordinated with the Financial Aid Office and Bursar's Office on campus. With the exception of certain campus closures, emergency funding is processed weekly. To connect with us on this service, please submit an ECRT Housing Request for Assistance

If a student is without a place to stay and needs assistance in securing safe housing immediately, they can be connected to the ECRT team to be assessed for emergency accommodation. To be connected, please complete an ECRT Housing Request for Assistance Form and, if urgent, reach out to [email protected] with "URGENT" in the subject line.

ECRT can provide a one-time U-Haul gift certificate for students experiencing an unforeseen financial barrier to moving. This one-time assistance may support moving into a new location or moving out of a location. To be connected, please connect with ECRT to be assessed for eligibility.

ECRT can connect students to community based resources such as the Legal Aid Society of San Diego to assist with tenants' rights and landlord disputes. The Basic Needs Center also provides workshops on this topic throughout the year. Follow us on our Instagram or subscribe to our Newsletter to stay connected with us.

Housing Resource Week is the Basic Needs Center/ECRT collaborative effort with community partners to bring housing resources to campus. During Housing Resource Week, students will have the opportunity to meet with various housing options around San Diego, explore programs that support college students, and attend workshops and events geared towards housing education. We typically host our Roommate Social Event during this time so you can potentially meet your next roommate!
